Alumni/Staff game to be played in August at Vets Park
STAFF REPORTS
Tuesday, April 26, 2026

The 50-year-old plus scholastic football rivalry between Medina and Roy-Hart will take on a new dimension this summer with the first Alumni/Staff football game between the two neighboring school districts.

The inaugural Roy-Hart vs. Medina Alumni/Staff football game will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Vets Park. Proceeds from the contest will go to help both football programs.

ÒItÕs been a great rivalry and it should be a fun evening,Ó said Medina High football coach Nick Benedetti, who is co-chairing the event with Roy-Hart Sports Boosters president Chris Cramer.

ÒThis is the very thing our guys have been waiting for,Ó Cramer said in noting that the past two yearÕs Roy-Hart grads have held their own intrasquad alumni game. ÒOur guys have been saying its time to move on and this game with Medina should be great to keep interest strong.Ó

Those two previous Purple vs. White Alumni games at Roy-Hart proved to be extremely popular attracting upwards of 1,000 spectators.

ÒRoy-Hart has had very good success with their game and we feel this game between the two schools should be great,Ó Benedetti said.

While full player rosters will be announced later Benedetti noted that that the Medina lineup will include Mustang grads and current Mustang assistant coaches Eric Valley, Gordy Luthart and Jody Sargent.

ÒNot only will be good for these former players to renew the rivalry on the field but it will also be just as important for the kids coming back to renew some old friendships and acquaintances. It will be a nice reunion gathering for the former players from both schools,Ó Benedetti said in noting that participants will attend a post game party at the Knights of Columbus.

In addition, past Medina and Roy-Hart coaches will be honored at the game.

The teams are scheduled to practice at Vets Park the week before the game.

The contest itself will have 12- minute quarters with teams required to play a basic 50-defense.

Tickets for the game will be $5 for adults and $3 for students with children under five admitted free. The concession stand will be open.
