Our thought on the matter
Wednesday, April 27, 2026
One of the great poets said that a valued gift is Òto see ourselves as others see us.Ó That means attention to our public image, and with 20,000 visitors due in Medina in early May, we have a job to do. How clean and pretty are we?
At 9 a.m. Saturday, any inspired volunteers who want to improve our ÒCanal TownÓ image can lend a hand and workers are urgently needed. Medina Lions Club is coordinating a clean-up morning on behalf of the Canal Task Force.
ÒPeople of all kinds and types and ages are urged to grab their work gloves, rakes, trash bags and clippers and join our task force at 9 a.m. at dockside in the canal basin,Ó Jim Watson of the canal group said.
This is no idle summons. Medina has many times in a year when it draws tourists, not only ÒThomas the Tank Engine.Ó Year in and year out cyclists visit us via the canal trail, diners come to the Apple Orchard Inn, crowds are on hand for the Medina Railroad Museum and its train rides. These are a few. These people carry away an impression of our fair town, either clean and well groomed or dirty and non-caring.
The message is clear. All kinds of village clean-up and fix-up are in order before ÒThomas the TankÓ draws its crowds. One way volunteers can help is by reporting to the canal basin Saturday for clean-up day.
