A Grand Street man was arrested and charged Friday morning with burglary and grand larceny.
Police charged Troy J. Saraf, 40, 156 Grand St., front, with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny after they say he stole appliances being stored by a newlywed couple.
According to Lt. Detective Scott Seekins, Saraf stole an electric stove, a refrigerator, gas dryer and an electric washer from a garage at The Commons on Davison Road on Sept. 26. The appliances, valued at about $2,500, were being stored in the garage by a Gasport man who was working in North Carolina temporarily. Seekins said the man had just married and the appliances were things they were going to need once they moved in together.
Seekins has no doubts Saraf sold the appliances and likely used the money to buy drugs. That means someone in the area has this merchandise and Seekins would like to get it back for the victim and his wife. The person or people who has these appliances wouldn’t just be doing a good deed by turning the items over to police. They would also be avoiding charges against themselves, he said.
“Whoever has these appliances is in violation of the law because they’re in possession of stolen property,” Seekins warned.
