A computer teacher at St. Dominic Savio Middle School is under investigation for allegedly making inappropriate remarks to students.
According to a letter to parents dated June 10, school officials confirm the teacher was put on administrative leave June 4 “pending an investigation of complaints from parents.”
St. Dominic’s Principal Patricia Muscatello did not return calls on Tuesday. The Rev. Stewart Lindsay, the canonical administrator of the middle school, is out of town until later this week.
Kevin Keenan, communications director for the Buffalo Catholic Diocese said “the diocese doesn’t comment on personnel issues.”
Niagara Falls Detective Capt. Ernest Palmer said Monday the department is conducting an investigation in conjunction with the Buffalo Catholic Diocese and middle school.
While the letter was sent out June 4, Palmer said the police department didn’t begin its investigation until after a parent filed a complaint against the teacher a little over a week ago. Since then, detectives have interviewed students, parents and staff at the school, he added.
“We’re hoping to wrap up the investigation by the end of the week,” Palmer said.
While Palmer declined to comment on the nature of the complaints, sources close to the investigation told the Niagara Gazette that the teacher is accused of making inappropriate remarks to students at the school.
The teacher, who was identified in the letter by the school, also worked as a volleyball coach for Niagara Catholic High School. Since the fall sports coaches aren’t rehired until August, he’s not currently employed by the school, Principal Robert DiFrancesco said.
“Depending on what happens with the investigation, we’ll have to look at the future of his employment,” he added.
In the letter to parents, Muscatello and Lindsay encourage anyone with comments regarding the teacher to contact them by mail or phone at the school, 504 66th St.
“Please understand that we are unable to comment on this matter while the investigation is in process,” the letter reads.
