The passing of Mrs. Bloneva Althea Pride Bond, community matriarch and social activist, will leave a void in our city, regarding its moral consciousness and concern for all of its residents. She worked tirelessly and was deeply committed to empowering and improving the economic, educational and social well-being of the less fortunate, through implementation of strategies and solutions designed to address issues adversely affecting these communities. It is not only extraordinary, but also fitting to note that this great lady died on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2004.
Mrs. Bond and her husband, Harwood, were exemplary role models and exemplified the true meaning of what it takes to effectuate a meaningful, productive and happy relationship or marriage. They raised the bar and actively demonstrated what wonderful things could be accomplished through the art of accommodation, cooperation and compromise as well as knowing the value of always opting for righteous principles over deceptive progress. Mr. and Mrs. Bond were excellent teachers and facilitators. As one individual stated, “although they are deceased, their cubs are still roaming freely, working toward the betterment of humanity.
The family, friends, clergy, elected officials and community leaders agree that the city of Niagara Falls is a better place thanks to the many contributions and courage of a lady fondly referred to as Mrs. Bond.
Finally, I would like to thank the Niagara Gazette for their news coverage of Mrs. Bond and New Hope Baptist Church for hosting an excellent memorial service held on May 29, 2004, at the church. The memorial service extended an opportunity for the community to pay its respects to a great leader.
