Myers Rules Royally In DQ contest

PLYMOUTH � What could go together better at a birthday party than cake and ice cream? How about a cake made of ice cream? Better yet, perhaps an ice cream cake decorated by Indiana�s No. 1 Dairy Queen Cake Decorator.
Gloria Myers has been an employee at the Plymouth Dairy Queen for the past five years. Gloria had only been decorating the cakes for two years when she received a call from Plymouth�s Dairy Queen owner, Suzi Heminger, telling her that she had won first place.
�I wasn�t expecting it,� Myers said about her first place finish.
Dairy Queen has an annual convention, and cakes from all over the state are entered and voted on. Since it�s all about decorations, the �cakes� in competition are neither ice cream or cake.
�They are made of Styrofoam,� Myers said.
With the state win, Myers received a $100 gift certificate from Sears and Heminger received a plaque for the store.
The cakes take quite a bit of time. If Myers makes any kind of mistake, she wipes it clean and starts over again.
Myers has seen a wide array of different requests for cakes. Sponge Bob has been one of the more popular requests for cakes, but the toughest cakes for Myers to make involves her drawing likenesses of people and pets.
�It�s unbelievable what some people want,� Myers commented.
Myers enjoys the title as Indiana�s No. 1 1 Dairy Queen Cake Decorator, but she is not satisfied with just one title. The convention is in January and Myers will defend her crown.
�I am looking forward to next year,� Myers concluded.
