Giving Season: Coats, Food Collected for Neighbors
By Stacey Creasy
PLYMOUTH The thermometer is dropping which means it is time for Oliver Ford and Prices Village Valet Cleaners to join forces for their annual coat drive.
We are shooting for 1,000 coats this year, said Steve Keiser of Oliver Ford. Im sure we can make it.
For the past three years, Oliver Ford and Prices Cleaners have kept Marshall County residents warm through the coat drive.
We have collected more than 2,500 coats in the past three years, Keiser added.
Oliver Ford and Prices Cleaners will once again serve as the drop off sites for the coats. Keiser said both businesses are asking anyone that has a coat that is in good shape or like new to drop the coat off for the give-away.
Of course if someone wants to go out and purchase a coat just for the give-away, they are welcome to do just that.
The coat give-away is for children and adults, people of all sizes.

PLYMOUTH The Marshall County Neigh-borhood Center is teaming up with local merchants to gather food for the annual citywide Thanks-giving food drive. The drive is currently under way; the food will be distributed to families on November 22.
The program is in its 20th year, still running strong with help from the community. The Pilot News building, 214 N. Michigan, is the only distribution/food-gathering center so far, but Neighborhood Center Director Dianne Smith is hoping to get support from others again this year.
We get lots of support from our local merchants, Smith said. The Brass Rail and other merchants have helped out by giving us turkeys in the past.
Baskets will be located at The Pilot News building, where donations of food will be accepted. The Neighborhood Centers goal this year will be to fill 125 baskets. The program went very well last year with 150 baskets donated.
The Center accepts not only non-perishable foods, but perishable foods as well. The perishable foods should be donated a couple of days before the deadline, so as not to spoil.
We have plenty of freezer and refrigerator space, so we can take turkeys and butter, Smith explained.
In order to be eligible to receive the food, an application must first be turned in. Applications can be gotten at the Neighborhood Center, 420 W. Garro; the deadline to turn in an application in will be Nov. 20. The Center has already received 65 applications in two weeks, but is accepting more.
The applications will also be used for the Centers Toys on Tables program.
The Christmas program will be at the Center on December 19-20.
