PLYMOUTH Balanced, perhaps, by the election results, Plymouth Mayor Jim Yeazel received ecstatic news Wednesday morning.
The grant was received, he said. That would be the anticipated state funding for the renovations and start up of the Marshall County Senior Center, 1301 W. Har-rison St.
The state awarded $200,000 to match the $200,000 already raised.
Everybody worked hard. Hughes and associates wrote a great grant.
As the center is already in the building and that alone is an improvement the mayor said the improvements would be incredible.
Wait til we get it done, he said. Well all be proud of it.
Jackie Wright, director of the center, said, The entire office has just not quit smiling since we heard the news. I am so excited I dont know where to begin.
She said the grant means the center has now gotten everything we need.
As for the money, I am sure it sounds like an enormous amount, but we will spend it carefully. We still have to meet with architects and get the drawings under way.
Basically, we now have a place for daily activities, for a nutrition site, to expand our services to what Marshall County seniors have been looking for and deserve.
She stressed again that this is a center for all of the county, not just a Plymouth-area site.
We had so much cooperation, from county to city to state, she said.
The planets aligned only once, My biggest fear was, if we didnt get it, wed have to try an align the planets again.
She deflected the praise for the accomplishment, even though she was the point person for undertaking.
Yes, I worked hard, she said. But it was not any one thing I did. This was a group effort; a Marshall County Count Community-wide effort.
