KNOX The Starke County Commissioners met Monday to go through bids from contractors.
The meeting opened with Attorney Steve Dodge reading through bids from 10 different contractors, each vying for county contracts.
The contractors help provide oil, fuel and stone for roads throughout the county.
The bids were all accepted by the panel.
The next item on the agenda had to deal with a septic tank on a public right-of-way.
The panel decided to repair an existing septic tank, even though the tank is on a public right-of-way.
However, if the sewer system eventually gets running through the area, then the owner of the property must then get hooked into the system.
Dave Kesvormas, representing Hamlets town board, was on hand to receive information on zoning restrictions.
Kesvormas told the panel about rumors of a rendering plant panning a county set up. He was seeking some advice or information on how to go about extending Hamlets jurisdiction without infringing on the county.
He is looking into extending Hamlets perimeters by about two miles.
President of the Commission Dan Bau told Kesvormas that the county would have no problem with Hamlet extending its jurisdiction.
Bau pointed out Plymouths perimeters extend about five miles out of town and the county would probably be able to accommodate Hamlets extension.
The panel also approved accepting Counter Terrorism Safety Response Equipment. There will be 37 bio-terrorist kits given to the county, with two going to each fire department and others going to ambulances.
The kits are priced at around $2,000 apiece.
