Former Bremen Resident Sentenced in Child Molestat

PLYMOUTH A former Bremen resident was sentenced to six years in prison on a pair of child molestation convictions, but may only spend a year behind bars.

Marshall Superior Court No. 1 Judge Robert O. Bowen sentenced Scott A Lippert, 21, of Two Rivers, Wis. to six years in prison on the child molestation charges. Four years of the sentence was suspended, leaving Lippert with two years to serve. With credit for good time served, Lippert may spend one year in prison.

In Indiana, an inmate receives one day credit for every day served unless the inmate gets into more trouble while in prison.

Bowen also ordered Lippert to serve another year on probation from the date of his release and ordered him to pay restitution. Lippert will also have his name, picture and address placed on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry for the next 10 years.

The conviction stems from incidents that took place in 2001 and 2002. The charges state that in November, 2001 and again in February, 2002 Lippert did perform fondling and touching a child under the age of 14 with the intent to arouse or satisfy his sexual desires.

The victim in the case contacted Bremen school officials who then contacted the Marshall County Department of Family and Children.

The lead investigator in the case, Detective Sgt. Rex Gilliland said the school and DFC did an excellent job handling the case and working with police.

Gilliland also credits the victim for having the courage and the convictions to report the offenses to the school.

By the time a warrant was issued for Lipperts arrest, he was living in Wisconsin. After extradition hearings were held, Gilliland traveled to Wisconsin to pick Lippert up and transport him to Marshall County.

The sentence is part of a plea deal. Without the deal with the state, Lippert was facing 6 to 16 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
