Indians Swim Past Pilgrim Girls

PLYMOUTH Five first place finishes and some solid individual efforts left Plymouth coach Kurt Kralovansky pleased with what he saw.

Despite his teams 103-83 loss to South Bend St. Josephs at the Plymouth Natatorium, Kralovansky said there were positives to take out of the meet.

Especially this early in the season with as many new kids as weve got, he said. Weve got 11 new swimmers on the team and were rebuilding.

The Pilgrims opened the meet winning the 200 medley relay. The team of Katie Day, Mallory Cook, Eli Muehlhausen and Beth Burden won in 2:03.62. The 400 free relay team of Katie Day, Shelly Richter, Kristin Wickens and Cook won in 1:15.97.

Cook also won the 200 free in 1:59.38 before her 500 free battle with the Indians Megan Vucovich.

Vucovich and Cook were locked in a battle most of the race. Vucovich won the race in 5:18.74. Cook finished in a school record 5:19.21.

Shes met this girl before from St. Joe, Kralovansky said. She swims all the time in age-group and she has experience with that. They push each other and I like that. With Mallory, she doesnt see a lot of competition amongst the other schools in distance events unless she swims St. Joe and Concord. Thats about it. She needs somebody to push her and this is good.

The Pilgrims also got a solid showing from their divers. Cari Miller took first place and Molli Davis was third.

This was the first time that she dove in competition, Kralovansky said of Miller. And she got a first and I was happy to see that. Molli Davis is a third-year returning diver and its good to see her place also.

Katie Day also swam well. Day won the 100 back in 1:05.91.

Katie Day swam her personal best in the backstroke, Kralovansky said.

Plymouth returns to action Tuesday when it travels to North Judson for a meet with Bremen and the host Bluejays.
