Couple Dives Right In To Pool

By Anthony Gadson

PLYMOUTH Plymouth has gained another hot spot for indoor recreation when the weather outside is cool.

Owners of the New Plaza Fabric Care Center, 203 E. Garro St. Celso and Sofia Dagaas have purchased the vacant storefronts left by Dominos Pizza and Country Road Bicycles at 201 E Garro St. and opened The Pool Room.

The Dagaases had pool tables set up in their laundromat for people to use while they waited for their laundry.

They noticed more people were coming in to play pool than just those who were also washing clothes. And, they figured, more tables could be used.

We had four pool tables in the laundromat, but, on the weekends, four tables just couldnt accommodate everybody, Celso explained.

The Dagaases then decided to buy the vacant spaces outright, rather than rent, and ordered six additional tables from Michigan to fill The Pool Room with 10 total tables.

We dont have the tables at the laundromat anymore, so we direct people over here when they want to play, Celos said.

The Dagaases began removing everything from the vacant stores during the second week in October and have put the finishing touches on The Pool Room.

The new place has benches, vending machines and the Dagaases hope to add an eating area after getting a permit from the Health Department.

We have a kitchen where we cook our own meals and people were able to smell and began asking about it, Sofia ex-plained.

The Dagaases are hoping to give those who want to play pool the option of going somewhere besides a bar. In fact, The Pool Roomis a non-smoking environment and outside drink containers are not permitted.

We are hoping to make it beautiful and professional looking, Sofia said.

Some people will come because it is non-smoking and a different atmosphere than the bars, Celso added.

The hours The Pool Room is open are still being discussed, but, for now, the hours are noon to around 11 p.m. weekdays and 3 p.m. to around 2 a.m. on the weekends.

We are always staying open later at the laundromat because people are always asking us to stay open longer and longer while they still play, Celso concluded.
