Bourbon sesquicentennial quilt to be created
BOURBON In the year 2003, Bourbon will be 150 years old. A sesquicentennial committee has been formed to coordinate the celebration of this milestone. In honor of the special occasion, a very special sesquicentennial quilt will be created by some of Bourbons talented women including: Bernice Metheny, Betty Dodson, Betty Dinius, Charlotte Barnhart and Carey Whiteman.
What will make this quilt so special? People. Anyone who is a current resident of Bourbon or Bourbon township and anyone who has ever lived there will have an opportunity to place their name in history by subscribing to a piece of the quilt. For $3.00, your name will be embroidered on a piece of fabric that will go into the quilt design. In addition, names on the quilt will be listed in the historical sesquicentennial souvenir booklet that will be published for the celebration.
The ladies must have all of the names in early (before March 31) in order to finish the quilt in time for the sesquicentennial celebration in August when the quilt will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The number of quilt pieces is limited so people will also want to get their names in early to assure their place in history on the quilt. Names will also be accepted in memory of deceased family members who were former residents of the town or township.
Application blanks will soon be available at the Bourbon Bank and other Bourbon businesses.
The applications will be accepted at the First State Bank of Bourbon, 101 W. Center. St., Bourbon.
Checks should be made payable to the Sesquicentennial Quilt Fund.
Those who are unable to pick up an application may send the information on a plain sheet of paper as long as the name(s) to be placed on the quilt are printed clearly, proper payment ($3.00 per name) is enclosed and a name, address and phone number are included in case the committee has questions.
Anyone needing further information may contact Judy McCollough, committee chairperson, at 342-5378.
