Fire Destroys Argos Home
Pilot news Staff Report
ARGOS A fire that de-stroyed a rural home on 19th Road early Thursday also injured one of the occupants as he tried to escape the blaze.
The Argos Department re-sponded to a 9-1-1 call just before 5:30 a.m. The caller stated a house in the 14000 block on 19th Road was on fire. Argos and Culver fire units were dispatched to the scene.
By the time firefighters arrived the house was engulfed in flames.
The residence was occupied by Dixie Quimby and her four children. One of the children Anthony Griffin, 16, was in-jured while escaping from the burning home.
Griffin suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation. He was transported to Woodlawn Hos-pital in Rochester where he was treated and released a few hours later.
Quimby and three other children, ages 15, 12 and 11 safely escaped from the burning home. Five family pets, three dogs and two cats were also able to escape the fire.
There was little the two fire departments could do to save the home. Investigators believe the blaze started in an upstairs bedroom. The house was completely gutted, but Quimbly was relieved no one was injured in the blaze or while fighting the fire.
Quimby said homes and possessions can be replaced, her children could not.
Firefighters spent several hours on the scene only to return a short time later when the blaze rekindled. Fire crews were able to quickly douse the hot spots.
The residence is a total loss. Investigators are looking for the cause of the fire.
