School Board Ready to Start Work
By Anthony Gadson
BREMEN The Bremen School Board starts its school year Monday by adding a new member which means its time to reorganize and elect officers for 2003 and to approve the contract of a director of special education.
Joyce Lee will fill Bremens director of special education, a new position. Due to the decentralization of special education, a director of special education is needed for schools in the NCI Cooperative. Lee comes to Bremen to work with low-incident cases, which includes children who may be emotionally handicapped, visually impaired or with orthopedic problems.
Lee then contracts with neighboring schools to find a licensed person to come in and work with students. If Lee has a student who needs help only once a week, then she can contact a neighboring school for a licensed person to work with the student.
Within reorganization the board must do for the new year, the board will have an election for president, vice-president and secretary. Stan Klotz is new to the board, having been elected this past fall and James Emans won re-election. Emans was a replacement for a retired board member, so this is his first term as an elected board member as well.
Klotz fills the position vacated by board president Tony Leeper. He decided to step away form the board after more than a decade of service. School classes also resume on Monday, so the principals will deliver their first 2003 reports.
