On Thursday night, Andrea will be performing her talent (25 percent of her score), a comedy routine she wrote entitled The Andrea Show. On Friday night, she will be competing in youth fitness (15 percent) where she will be doing a choreographed routine. Other categories include scholastics (20 percent), poise during the evening gown competition (15 percent) and a personal interview (25 percent).

Other area girls competing for the title include: Bremens Junior Miss, Lisa Reed, and Plymouths Junior Miss, Nicole Rash.

The Americas Junior Miss program was founded in 1957 and is the oldest and largest scholarship program for high school senior girls. It has helped thousands of girls pay for their educations and pursue their ambitions. Over 700,000 young women have competed at the local, state and national levels. More than $2 million in cash scholarships and $32 million in college-granted scholarships are available each year. During the past 45 years, Americas Junior Miss has awarded scholarships totaling $83.6 million to girls from across the nation. In addition, other cash scholarships worth more than $3 million have been awarded at the National Finals in Mobile. Past participants include Diane Sawyer of ABC News, Deborah Norville of Inside Edition and Debra Messing, co-star of NBCs Will & Grace.

The programs goal is to honor young women who excel in all areas and to encourage them to continue on the path of excellence by completing their college educations and assuming roles of leadership in their communities and professions, thereby setting an example for other young women to follow.

Tickets are still available for the two preliminaries and the final evening of competition. Tickets for the preliminary competitions are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets for the final competition are $15.

If you would like to send Andrea a good luck note while in Frankfort, she will be staying at the host home of Gary and DeAnna Wehr, 859 Forest Dr., Frankfort, IN 46041. Andrea is contestant number 18 and is the daughter of Duane and Jane Zentz.
