PLYMOUTH As long as a problem does not pop up along the way, the Marshall County Commissioners will work with Ancilla College to reroute one of the county roads near the college.
The commissioners tentatively agreed to a plan Monday to reroute 9B Road to Union Road.
Sister Shirley Bell with the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and Ancilla College presented the request to the board.
Bell and college officials are concerned about the Y in the immediate vicinity.
We consider the Y and the sharp turn out there a double- hazard, Bell said.
We are concerned about the number of people who use the road and the people who use the road going to Ancilla.
To reroute the Y, Bell said, would mean closing one of the eyes of the Y. Bell thinks stop signs would also help.
Commissioners Cliff Allen and John Zentz like the move. They did not act because fellow commissioner Kevin Overmyer was out of town and not at the meeting.
Engineer Mike Strang, of Strang and Associates, looked at the project. He asked the commissioners if the county would fund the project. Ancilla will pay to have the area surveyed.
Once the work is done the land would be deeded over to the county.
Allen and Zentz said they will consider that request as well and will make a decision after meeting with Overmyer and highway superintendent Neal Haeck.
The commissioners could make a final decision during their April 7 session and could make the changes in 9B Road this summer.
