PLYMOUTH A Walkerton woman who allegedly eluded police by using her sisters identity is in the Marshall County Jail facing eight charges.
Even though Bethany N. Lawton, 21, was booked into the Marshall County Jail, it wont be her last stop. She has arrest warrants pending in other counties.
Lawton was arrested in LaGrange County for forgery and felony theft. Marshall County Police picked her up in LaGrange County on Sunday to answer charges here.
In Marshall County, Lawton is facing one felony and seven misdemeanors. The felony charge is for forgery. Lawton was involved in a traffic accident in May and allegedly provided false name and Social Security number. Lawton also signed her sisters name on police documents.
Investigators said this is the type of case that decreases the odds of an officer giving someone the benefit of the doubt when they claim to have left a drivers license at home.
The false informing charge stems from Lawton giving police officers her sisters name for two tickets issued to her.
Lawton has also been charged with driving while suspended, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, false or fictitious registration, no valid drivers license, disregarding a stop sign and expired license plates.
When police contacted Lawtons sister about the incident, they discovered the Walkerton woman had stolen or at least borrowed her identity.
Arrest warrants were issued for Lawton. Once Lawton makes her court appearances here, she will be transported to St. Joseph County where she has been charged with burglary.
