Triton Softball Building

By Ken Peterson

BOURBON It's never easy to build a program.

Especially given the handicaps the program has been placed with.

Lori Teeple wants to change that.

The first-year Triton head softball coach has plenty of positives to build on from a team that finished 3-17 last season.

For one thing, the Trojans will play on a new diamond later this year, taking the place of the previous diamond behind the high school.

But her biggest victory has come in the Triton community.

This year, younger players in the community will have the opportunity to play summer softball. In the past, the girls have played baseball with the boys, which made fielding a competitive softball team difficult.

Teeple has some underclassmen to help with her young team. Leading the way is senior Steph Scott, the do-everything person.

"She gives us senior leadership," Teeple said. "Shes great at the bat."

Teeple will also rely on Ashlee Westafer at shortstop.

"We look for her leadership on the field," she said. "She's an all-around great player."

Pitching, an area that can make or break a team, is crucial. Leading the way on the mound will be Becky Miller.

"She's come a long way and with playing time, she's only getting better," Teeple said.

Teeple will also rely on Echo Rosinski at third base and pitcher. Cara Sieber will also share time on the mound.

"I want to make this team to where the girls know more than one position," Teeple said. "During practices, we're always substituting girls."
