PLYMOUTH Two Marshall County Commissioners met with the Plymouth Water Works Board and sanitary board Monday to request city services to the site of the new county jail.
Commissioners Cliff Allen and Kevin Overmeyer asked city officials to cooperate with the county to take water and sewer utilities for the jail site.
The new county jail will be constructed on King Road, next to the Marshall County Highway Department.
We are wanting to work with the city, Overmeyer suggested. We are looking into the future, not just the next 10 years, but 40 years down the road.
Allen stated: This is going to benefit a lot of people. Not only in the county, but also in the city.
The county plans to released bids for an architect to do the work in January or February, when interest rates and costs are lower.
The commissioners also suggested annexing of land into the city.
It would be wise to annex the farmland, Overmeyer mentioned. We should take out the current sewer line that goes to Shady Rest, and merge it as one, rather than having two.
No action was taken Monday. County and city officials will conduct a work session and a public hearing on the project.
The only plans the commissioners have considered call for a 160-bed jail with 40 beds set aside for a work release program.
