PLYMOUTH The Marshall County Commissioners are trying to find out what happened to the records at the Emergency Management Agency.
On Monday the commissioners directed county attorney Jim Clevenger to send another letter to former EMA Director Norm Long, asking for Longs assistance in locating the records.
The commissioners voted not to renew Longs contract last year and it expired Dec. 31. When the commissioners went into the office after the first of the year, they found records missing and his office computer was cleared.
Long was upset about losing the EMA position, but he told the Pilot News he did not take any records or erase the computer files.
Still, the commissioners and the Local Emergency Planning Committee are not buying it. LEPC members want to know how three years worth of files disappeared along with a great deal of information on the computer.
The EMA is required by the state to file quarterly reports. Past reports are missing along with information needed for current reports. The resource list for the county also disappeared when Long left office.
Commissioners Cliff Allen and John Zentz approved a motion to send a certified letter to Long, demanding the files be returned. If Long fails to respond within 15 days, the matter will be turned over to the Marshall County Police Department.
The commissioners were informed they could file a theft charge if the files were stolen from the EMA office.
