BREMEN A fresh coat of paint on the street light poles has added a new dimension to the main streets of Bremen.
Theyve been that light blue for as long as Ive ever known, said Tim Montague, Bremen Electric Department Superintendent. We decided to go with dark green. We had several samples and thats the one that we thought looked the best.
This summer, light poles east of Bowen Avenue on Plymouth Street and the tall poles on Center Street will be repainted.
We grind and scrape, then prime them. And its taking two coats of the green paint to cover them, Montague explained. Were hoping to get everything done by the [Firemens Festival] parade.
The poles were last painted about five years ago, but are being repainted due to rusting, explained Duwaine Elliott, town director of operations.
They rust where the paint gets chipped off, particularly on the lower parts where people tape signs. The duct tape pulls the paint off. Its against our sign ordinance to put any signs on our electric poles or light poles.
Elliott asks that citizens keep tape and signs off the freshly-painted poles.
Next year, the town will likely paint the poles west of Bowen Avenue on Plymouth Street, and the short, ornamental poles on Center.
