BOURBON The Triton Dual DI-Lemma Destination ImagiNation team won big and won proud at the global finals in Knoxville, Tennessee. The team smashed the competition in the instant competition and won a Renaissance Award for the story they wrote for the long program. The seven member team placed second for their creativity and side trips according to team coach, Linda Kissinger.

Both Triton teams took a victory lap through Tippecanoe, Etna Green and Bourbon, perched on top of fire trucks with the firemen announcing the teams success. A caravan of well-wishers followed the fire trucks into the school parking lot where the celebrating that started last evening in Knoxville, continued for another hour.

Andrea Zentz, Tim Speicher, Kylie Edmonds, Sarah Benczik, Todd Bolt, David Gabhart, and Ben Speicher pulled together to win the world title. Winning is a team effort with each member bringing strength to the team.

Experiencing her second trip to the world competition and fourth year on a team, Triton junior Zentz says, Ive learned a lot over the year. It helps to have experience. Several family members joined Zentz and the rest of the team in Knoxville. She said, It was a lot of fun to have everyone there.

Junior Kylie Edmonds brings five years of experience to the team and enjoyed her third trip to the world finals. She says her strength is design and acting. She enjoys painting the set and designing costumes.

The youngest members of the team are three boys who admittedly add an element of comic relief to the team. Freshmen Ben Speicher and David Gabhart, along with sophomore Todd Bolt help with construction, and adding humor to the work sessions. Gabhart said he is a behind the scenes guy helping with the structure.

Junior Tim Speicher is also a veteran of three world competitions with five years of experience on local teams.

Sarah Benzcik, a junior at Trinity, now has eight years of competitive experience and four tries at a world title under her belt. She says, I always have my hands in everything. I write music and scripts for the long program. Benzcik was influential in getting the Triton team to try a structure problem for the contest. Having competed at the global finals with Plymouth for two years, Trinity one year and now Triton, she is experienced at working on the structure problems.

The forty teams in the world level Dual DI-lemma contest built a load bearing structure using balsa wood and performed a story using their structure. Tritons score for the structure was not one of the best, but the team scores on the instant challenge blew away the competition.

The On-Holiday team made up of Megan Weissert, Anna Smith, Jana Sell, Kayla Hollingsworth, Alyssa Bolt, Audrey Speicher, and Cole Eiser placed 35th in their division. The younger team which has four freshmen and three junior high members were coached by Jennita Speicher.
