Will council go for senior center?
By Stacey Creasy
PLYMOUTH Plymouth Mayor Jim Yeazel is hoping the city council will share his vision of a senior facility at Webster Recreational Center.
Yeazel plans to talk about possibly expanding the Webster Center when the council convenes tonight. The city meetings begin at 6 p.m. with the Water Works xBoard. The meetings are held in council chambers.
Yeazel met with a number of officials last week, including; Plymouth Park Board President Jim Causey, park superintendent Mike Boener, Ed Fansler with the Indiana Department of Commerce, and Older Adult Services Director Jackie Wright.
We talked about expanding the Webster Center, adding a couple of offices and a big room on to it, Yeazel said. We talked moving Older Adult Services over there and having everything under one roof so seniors do not have to run all over town.
The city council meeting agenda states Yeazel wants to discuss the project and mention a Community Focus Fund grant. He does not know what an expansion would cost.
I want to toss the idea around, Yeazel added. A number of people have gotten a hold of me and said we need to make better use of the Webster center. I think this is a good idea. Yeazel said both Rochester and Knox have nice senior centers.
I dont see why we cant have something like that for our seniors, said Yeazel, who added it would stated.
Additional items on the council agenda include ordinances on the sewage rate, salary and creating a detective sergeants position within the Plymouth Police Department.
The council may also act on a request for a zoning change at 615 W. Jefferson St.
The Plymouth Board of Works will consider the RFD Traffic Study.
All the boards are expected to change the May 27 meeting due to the Memorial Day holiday.
