Grand jury to convene

By Stacey Creasy

PLYMOUTH Marshall County Prosecutor Curt Palmer hopes a grand jury will shed some light into the stabbing death of Kenneth Rensberger.

Palmer called for the grand jury in late February.

Rensberger, who was 30 years old at the time of his death on Feb. 17, was stabbed to death by what investigators are calling a female roommate.

Rensberger and the roommate resided at a home on Pear Road, but the Marshall County Police were called to a residence on in the 13,000 block of 2A Road near LaPaz, about 12:21 a.m. When officers arrived they found Rensberger in the yard. He was pronounced dead at the scene from the stab wound.

The roommate was arrested, but was released without charges being filed.

Police do know the roommate and Rensberger were arguing at the time he was stabbed. A source close to the case also said the roommate had been treated for alleged abuse.

Prosecutors at times use a grand jury against a possible suspect to see if they have a strong case. If an indictment is handed down by a grand jury, the prosecutor then takes the case to a criminal trial.

Grand jury proceedings are sealed. They are not open to the public.
