BASS LAKE - Fireworks on Saturday night, a parade on Sunday, and a kiddie carnival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. are just a few of the activities at this years Bass Lake Summer Splash 2002.
The kiddie carnival has been expanded into a family fun center with a petting zoo, pony rides, watermelon seed spitting contest, hot dog eating contest, sack races, and similar activities.
All the activities will be held next to the Fingerhut Bakery. An arcade will be set up inside the BLPOA Building nearby on both Saturday and Sunday.
Renowned local chef and Shore Club owner Mark Nilsson has been given the honors of Grand Marshall for Sundays parade, which starts at 2 p.m. and winds its way along County Road 210.
Another new feature is a classic and custom car show at Bass Lake Beach on Sunday.
The popular tram tours are being held again. The tours take visitors around the lakes historic spots. Bass Lake once boasted excursion boats and nine or more hotels, and has connections to the famous novel and movie, Ben Hur.
Friday is the official first day of the festival, when the fishing derby kicks off at 8 a.m. at Bass Lake Grocery. But Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, and the big days.

Theres plenty of water activities, including a sailboat race starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Irish Shores dock at the west end of the lake.

The golf tournament is on Saturday.
