CULVER Culver Superintendent Brad Schuldt said he issued a press release on changes within the schools in order to clear up any misinformation that may exist.
We want people to know not all the construction projects will be completed when the school year begins Aug. 16, Schuldt stated. We want to let people know where we are right now. I think there is some misinformation out there.
Schuldt said students will notice significant changes at Culver Elementary, Monterey Elementary and Culver Jr.-Sr. High School.
At Culver Elementary Schuldt said the work to the classrooms has been completed and the air conditioning system is up and running. The administrative area has been expanded and redone. Schuldt said the kitchen was gutted and work in the kitchen area will be ongoing at the beginning of the school year. Workers believe the kitchen will not be completed until the third week of September.
Until the kitchen work is done, the students will be served via a satellite system with food being prepared at the high school and transported to the elementary school. The same system was used last year.
Schuldt said the new sidewalks, drives and parking areas will be completed by the beginning of the school year. At Monterey Elementary work on the west end addition is nearly completed. The east end renovation should be completed by the beginning of the school year. The administrative area has been moved to the lower floor, near the main entrance. Schuldt said work on the new stair town and elevator addition should be done by the end of September.
The new cafeteria kitchen area is complete and kitchen equipment is being installed. Lunches will be served the first day of school. The media center and computer room are also ready.
Schuldt said a new entrance and canopy on the west side of the building will be ready for student drop off and pick up. The exterior work and roofing has been completed.
Schuldt said most of the work at the junior-senior high building has been completed.
Both the science wing addition and the gymnasium addition are 98 percent complete. Schuldt said this year marks the first year the Middle School and High School are separated.
The building has been designed to accommodate the change.
Most of the exterior work is done There are basketball courts are up and the track has been resurfaced.
Schuldt said the parking has been resurfaced and the landscaping will continues as long at the weather allows it.
The project has gone well for the most part, Schuldt said. We would rather tell students and their parents what to look forward to when school starts.
