OC&T; on track with busy 2005 agenda

After taking over half-a-million riders through the Valley That Changed the World, what can the OC&T; Railroad do for an encore?
Open a 21 caboose motel on the tracks adjacent to the Perry Street Station, thats what.
According to John Cramer, OC&T; general manager, plans call for the cabooses to be open for the public in June. Each caboose will be self-contained with its own heat and air-conditioning units. The cars were originally a part of the former Mollys Mill and Caseys Caboose restaurant-motel business in Titusville. However, the OC&T; took over ownership of the cabooses, moved them, and will rent them out for people who want to stay overnight in the area while visiting.
Cramer said although the OC&T; season officially starts in June of each year, the excursion line has been running a specialty train during the winter months. The annual Cottontail Express Run, which features the Easter Bunny, is scheduled for Saturday, March 19. Next month, the Tax Relief Day Run will be held. The month of May is when the half-dozen school runs begin and Cramer said reservations for these spring excursions are filling up fast.
The OC&T; will again offer the whodunnit murder mysteries to its agenda. The 2005 dates are as follows:
n Microphone Mayhem, July 30, Sept. 10, Sept. 24
n Manuscript Mayhem, Aug. 27, Sept. 17
Those who have not taken in a Murder Mystery are in for a treat. The evenings events begin at 6 p.m. at the Perry Street Station with a wine and cheese reception. The actors will join their guests onboard the train for a tremendous evening of entertainment as the story line unfolds and everyone tries to figure out who the murderer was.
Riders will return to the Perry Street Station at approximately 9 p.m. for dinner as the mystery is finally solved.
The OC&T; also is the only operating Railway Postal Car in the United States. Passengers are encouraged to mail a post card from the train while enjoying the ride.
As part of the annual Oil Festival, members of the NARCOA speeder group will provide speeder car rides on Aug. 13.
