Rockets sweep Knights in tennis opener
By Ed Topoleski
First-year tennis coach Tom Bodamer didnt have to wait very long to get his first taste of victory. The Rockets swept Franklin Wednesday during the season opener, 5-0.
It was a super way to start the season, Bodamer quipped. Everyone played really well.
The Rockets dominated singles play.
At No. 1 singles, Toby Cressman defeated Jason Hudson, 6-1, 6-0. Ben Kristobak downed John Hurr, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, and Greg Dupree won the No. 3 slot 6-0, 6-1.
Titusville also won both doubles matches. Leoni Siliga and Casey Childers teamed up to win the No. 1 slot, 6-3, 6-0, and Jeff Ledeber and Jesse Wig won No. 2, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5.
Bodamer liked what he saw at No. 2 doubles from Ledebur and Wig. The duo lost their first set, 5-7, but won the second 6-1. In the third frame they crawled out of a deep hole for the win.
The No. 2 doubles team was down in the last set, 5-2, Bodamer said. And they came back to it and eventually won it, 7-5. So, they won the last five games in a row. That was a real nice win for (Ledebur and Wig).
The Rockets are scheduled to host Oil City tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Burgess Park.
