Titusville girls in league of their own By Ed Topoleski Titusville female soccer players now have a league of their own thanks to the hard work of a handful of parents. As members of ORSA (Oil Region Soccer Association), 15 Titusville girls will compete in an all-girls league for the first time. I have been trying to get some interest in a girls program at (Titusville High School), said Rick Shrout, head coach of the new team. And the school board looked at starting a team, but didnt think there was enough interest for this year. Girls are permitted to play on the Titusville boys team, Shrout said. But he also noted the difficulty most girls have in doing that over an extended period of time. I have refereed high school soccer for years, Shrout said. And its kinda rare that girls play a whole game at that level. Its fair that they now have their own team. Girls on Titusvilles team include: Erika Shrout, Nicole Zdarko, Natilee Zdarko, Dana Galinsky, Kayla Sutton, Kari Sutton, Samantha Boyle, Kate Titus, Katie Koller, Caroline Bravo, Alecia Weldon, Jenn Bleday, Hannah Champion, Emily Wescoat and Dorothy Stromdahl. Dan Galinsky and Ed Zdarko will serve as Shrouts assistant coaches. Ultimately, it would be nice if in a few years we could have a high school team, Shrout said. The following is the teams schedule: April 3 at Warren April 10 vs. Erie Admirals April 17 vs. Meadville Storm April 24 vs. Penncrest Galaxy May 1 at Mercer Girlz May 8 vs. Grove City Americans May 22 at Corry June 5 at Warren Add a comment |
