Worley arrested for manslaughter
Melodie Phelps News Editor
The mother of an eight-year-old boy who drowned in a submerged car in
Lake Cumberland has been arrested and charged with second degree
manslaughter.
State police arrested Wynema Worley, 27, of Bronston, on Wednesday,
August 23, following an investigation into the Saturday, August 19 incident
that claimed the life of Dylan Rambo.
State Police Detective Doug Boyd indicated that the arrest warrant was
sought after he consulted with Common-wealth Attorney Larry Rogers and after
receiving toxicology results.
Rogers has stated that toxicology reports showed both drugs and alcohol
in Worley's system at a level which would cause impairment.
The incident happened at approximately 12:33 a.m. at Cumberland Point,
which is located at the end of Highway 235 in the Jabez area of Wayne
County.
Worley was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Corsica that went into the water.
Worley and her six-year-old daughter, Misty Rambo, escaped from the
submerged vehicle. People who were fishing in the area attempted to rescue
Dylan, who was reportedly asleep in the back seat of the car, but could not
reach him in time.
In a statement to media, Boyd said that Worley "expected her arrest"
Wednesday and was "distraught" over her son's death.
Worley was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
She was arraigned in Wayne District Court on Thursday, August 24, where
she entered a plea of not guilty. An attorney from the Public Defender's
Office was appointed to represent Worley.
A preliminary hearing was set for Tuesday, September 5 at 3 p.m. in
Wayne District Court. Bond was set at $50,000 cash only.
