Fiscal Court agrees to purchase ambulance
Melodie Phelps
News Editor

Wayne County EMS will add another ambulance to its fleet, after fiscal

court met in emergency session on Wednesday, August 23 and agreed to make

the purchase.

The 2001 ambulance, which has only 53,200 miles, became available

recently through a broker out of New Jersey. Wayne County EMS Director Bubby

Corder explained that ambulances with this kind of low mileage usually sell

very quickly once they become available.

Magistrates reviewed several photos of the ambulance, which included

several extra features that are normally not included on these vehicles.

The county will pay $49,200 for the ambulance. Wayne County has six

other ambulances in its current fleet, but several of the older vehicles

have accumulated a lot of miles.

During the court's regular monthly meeting earlier this month, Corder

had given magistrates a list of the ambulances, as well as the mileage for

each vehicle.

At that time, magistrates had expressed an interest in possibly

purchasing a good used vehicle before one of the older ambulances fails.
