|
| The
amount of information contained in each edition of The McCreary
County Record is
determined by the amount of advertising in that issue. The decision
on which story or picture to run first is generally made based upon
several criteria including: newsworthiness and community interest,
available space, number of readers impacted, etc. |

| Publicity
of an event before it happens takes priority |
|
|
|
The
best way to guarantee the maximum coverage of an upcoming event or
organization is to provide at least a two-week notice. To make sure
we publish the information correctly, we ask that you provide us the
information in writing by e-mailing it to [email protected],
faxing it to (606) 376-9565, or bringing it by our office on Geary
Street on Courthouse Square in Whitley City.
You should provide as much detail as possiblewho,
what, when, where, why, how and a contact name and telephone number. The
person providing us the information should also include a daytime
telephone number in case we have questions. You do not have to be a
professional writer; we will put your information into the proper
format. We welcome photographs, but cannot be held responsible for
them should they be lost. A better way to submit photographs is
electronically either on CD-ROM or via e-mail. Contact us before
e-mailing any large attachments, otherwise they may be deleted from
our server. |

|
|
| We
encourage everyone to submit information to us about the
achievements and activities of persons in the McCreary County area,
or of news that affects McCreary Countians. There is a charge for
certain Lifestyle Page information such as: birthdays,
anniversaries, weddings and engagements. Refer to that web page for
information.
There is no charge for articles and/or
photographs of news events.
While we attempt to provide staff coverage for
community activities, there are times when conflicts arise and we
cannot attend your event.
If you provide us information about your
activity we will publish an article.
We can accept photographs in several forms,
the most popular being raw, digital images at a resolution of at
least 150 dpi and preferably 300 dpi. Many readers attempt to submit
low resolution (72 dpi)
photos, or photos they have scanned and/or printed on home printers.
Invariably these will reproduce very poorly and often must be
rejected for printing in The Record due to unacceptable quality.
The best way to submit raw digital images is
via CD-ROM or e-mail. If your digital camera contains a card, we can
also download images from the card. (We can accept several digital
card formats.) Likewise, we can accept any size, good quality
photograph, either black or white or color. (Polaroid pictures tend
to reproduce poorly.)
We are especially interested in articles and
photographs concerning new employees, promotions, club activities,
civic organization programs, honors and awards, sporting events and
other news activities.

|
| An
advertisement is a paid announcement that runs on the week or weeks
you specify. Purchasing an advertisement provides the best means of
conveying your message exactly was you want it to appear in print.
News articles and public service announcements
are free and provide information concerning events and activities in
the community. We do not guarantee a date of publication for a news
article. Such items are subject to editing and space limitations. We
never guarantee front-page placement of any article or photograph.

|
|
|
| While
a lot of our staff-generated articles are the result of meetings or
actions taken in our legal system, a majority of the stories are the
result of someone calling to tell us about an interesting person,
place or upcoming event. The final decision on what to cover is made
by the Editor, based upon staff input and what stories are likely to
have the most reader interest.
