McCreary EMS personnel prepare to transport two teens who suffered suspected drug overdoses at this mobile home next to Pine Knot Cemetery Friday morning.
19-year-old mother dies, teen friend hospitalized in overdose
BY JANIE SLAVEN
Record Staff Writer

PINE KNOT McCreary Countys drug problem exploded into public consciousness last week with news that an apparent drug overdose left a young mother dead and a high school senior hospitalized.
Emergency responders were dispatched to a mobile home next to Pine Knot Cemetery just after 7:30 a.m. Friday morning when a friend discovered Randi Elaine Chitwood, 19, and Kristofer Holmes Gilreath, 17, unresponsive.
First on scene was McCreary County Deputy Sheriff Freddie Clark, who said Sunday that various type drugs were found in the trailer. Clark could not elaborate pending lab identification of the substances seized but stated that the case involved an accidental overdose.
McCreary County EMS transported both teens to Scott County Hospital where Chitwood was pronounced dead. Gilreath, a week shy of participating in McCreary Central Highs commencement, was reportedly transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
We have no information to release on Kris Gilreath, a UT spokesperson said Monday, May 24.

I don't know either one of these people, but my heart goes out to them both, and their families.

What a young age to have to die. This must be a very difficult time this must be for both families to have to go through.

I hope though this might be an example to other young people, drugs kill, stay away from them or the same might happen to you someday.

I am sure this young lady didn't think she would die, she had a whole life ahead of her, just 19 years old and a mother.
