Pickin on a Preacher? : Ernie Morrow says hes persecuted as chosen of god
By JANIE SLAVEN Record s
PINE KNOT Ernie Morrow Jr. has had his share of trials and tribulations. The Pine Knot preacher has survived cancer only to face jail time with his recent conviction for drug trafficking. Morrow acknowledges that he sold prescribed pills to someone he calls a drug dealer but does not describe himself as one. Morrow believes that there is a conspiracy to destroy his family. He and his brother David, a former deputy sheriff, were charged as part of the 2003 prescription drug sting investigated by the Kentucky State Police. Morrow said the dealer/informant used to put the case together harassed the family every day for a month before the sale was finally made. My Bible tells me Im going to be persecuted because I was chosen by god to spread the Gospel 25 years ago, Morrow said. But I hate that my name and my family are being drug through the mud because of a few corrupt politicians. Though he pleaded guilty earlier this month with prosecutors recommending a five-year sentence, Morrow is hopeful that he wont be going to jail. He estimates that he takes 25-30 pills per day to treat his cancer, stomach, pain, breathing and depression. I wish the Lord would just kill me and take me home, Morrow said. Every day Im under the influence of drugs. Im just trying to keep it between the ditches. What I want to do with the time Ive got left is bring the word of God into McCreary County and Kentucky. The only retirement Ive got is when I reach heaven.

DevilDriver (5/5/2026) I think that the McCreary County Record did a great job of placing this so called crook of a preacher hiding behind God...Bring's that much more attention to this Man...Besides if he needed the Drug's for pain as he stated, why was he selling them for?
Truth! (5/5/2026) This lying hippocrit is about as much a preacher as satan.
someone (5/5/2026) I think the article should be in the comic section. I hope ole ernie gets some Jail Time, 2 bit con-man hiding behind religion.
Confused (5/4/2026) This is not Front page Material!
Is new that hard to come by, in McCreary County?
(5/2/2026) This article was a waste of space and time for your newspaper. If I was him I would be afraid to call myself a PREACHER.
Jeff (5/2/2026) a preacher and a cop selling and taking drugs, who can you trust? I feel sorry for the kids of McCreary County, the people who can lead the kids in the right direction aren't doing so, its sad for the whole county.
LOL (5/2/2026) It wants to make you want to know who someone is,lol.God told them so.
Curious George (ha ha) (5/2/2026) Seems like alot of people knows him pretty good.So are they doctors,if they know he doesn't have cancer anymore? So what are the doctors say about this? They ought to know if he still has it or not.And what about the statement that he said "He would wish that the Lord would just kill him and take him home".I will say this,if he is taking that much medication and by his own confession that he is under the influence,he shouldn't have a driver's license if he has one,it should be taken away from him immediately.I sure wouldn't want someone like him behind the wheel after he has confessed that he takes 25-30 pills everyday. Also he should have to go to these schools and give a talk about drugs and what they will do to a person, just to see if he is a changed man.He should have to do this at lest 3 times a month. And maybe give him about 500 hours of community service, and have him pick up some of this trash on the roadways, and maybe when he gets to picking up trash,he will be reminded of the trash he was selling.
Hard to believe (5/2/2026) Okay. First off I don't think he needs any kind of slack. And if you ever had anyone in your family on drugs you wouldn't think he would desrerve it either. As far as Preaching goes... He needs to read and study the bible more.Because he isn't getting the correct information. I don't know him personally, but I have seen him before in public places and he is almost the ruddest man I have ever seen, but yet he is a man of God. I'm not sure how he sleeps at night knowing all of the lies he has told.
another concerned (5/2/2026) I am offended that this newspaper chooses to place this so called "article" on the front page. Or any page for that matter.
but if you choose to give this DRUG DEALER a voice, then I feel I must add the truth to go along with it.
This is a man who is hiding behind God & a disease he no longer suffers from to get freebies. Food, money, DRUGS, ect... this man has been selling drugs for a long while, not just the one time they have him on tape. He is a user! A taker! A coward! He is willing to destroy lives in order to gain money. He claims to be a christian & a preacher. I understand that EVERYONE makes mistakes & God will forgive them if they ask & do their best to change their ways. But this "preacher" has continually lied about currently having cancer & has everyone fooled about his current state of health!
Mr. Morrow had to have people help him into the courthouse on a regular basis & was in a wheelchair. But on one day of the trial after bieng carried to his car, he went to a local reaturaunt to eat & walked in on his own power without any oxegyn, that he claims he cannot do without. Well....okay maybe he was having a GOOD day! I'd believe that if this were not common practice for this man. he makes a habit of getting people to feel sorry for him. This is a lifestyle for him. He will sacrifice anyone, even his own brother to get what he wants. He claims in his article that his brother Dave is also being persecuted. His main claim for defense is that his brither set him up.Which is it Mr. Morow? Does your brother deserve defending or did he set you up?
s (5/2/2026) "Picking on a Preacher"???? HA!!!
We are talking about a man who takes advantage of a PREVOIUS illness(cancer) to obtain drugs that he fully intended to sell. he has lied to obtain these drugs on many occasions, claiming to still be suffering from cancer when that is just not the truth. this man is guilty of selling drugs for a long period of time not just once!!!! It just took a while to catch him because of who he knows! i have no pity for this DRUG DEALER. He is using God & cancer to hide behind.
he is a user & will continue to use anyone who lets him!
someone (5/2/2026) As a man of God all charges should be dropped brother Morrow will cause no more harm in our community. God wants these charges dropped Jesus told me so in a dream last night. All joking aside I think he deserves Jail time, but it would not be fair since King walked away free. In the words of Special Judge Miniard "If you look at the big picture, as a cristian all things can be forgiven." I think that guy should be disbarred.
known him for years (5/1/2026) First, this man is not a preacher,he told people he was so he could get free food etc, and it was to be GIVEN to the needy but he was reported for selling it on bethel rd.So he tryed any way to con people out of their money,he has served a prison term before for fraud so he should be right at home where he's going.
Elvnsword (5/1/2026) Do the Crime, Pay the Time is another saying I remember having tossed my way all my youth in McCreary. As for Stones, and sins, I didn't sell drugs, nor buy them. Yes shockingly enough our school system can produce kids clean of drugs, or useta could.
As for the "they're picking on me" complex he seems to have, it is called paranoia, and he should probably seek real help, not the VA and they're drug happy constituants.
(5/1/2026) I must question the integrity of a paper and journalist that selects such a topic for front page news. This is something for a letter to the editor. This man was convicted by a court of law after evidence was presented. Now he claims he is a victim of harassment. How is that important news.? Doesn't every guilty party
claim this? Next thing you know the prisoners will be claiming they are being held against their will.
fact finder (4/30/2005) if mr morrow does go to jail for 5 year sentence.he will be out most likely within 1 year.almost all the other people indicted during the time he was is all ready out.some of them was even second time offenders.and as for sin i believe all sin weighs the same.put your faith in the LORD and not people.
(4/30/2005) He should have pled the Alford Plea. Sure they have him on film selling the drugs he and his brother milked out of the VA, but he could plead the Alford and not admit guilt even tho they had enough evidence to convict him. Works for some people.
some one concered (4/30/2005) pickin on a preacher na if he sold them he should get punished like every one else should you do the crime you do the time i say he might been chosen of god but god wouldnt be pleasedd with you selling drugs i dont think ya i do think preachers get persecuted but this is something he brought on him self persecuting someone means i think saying stuff thats not true and if he says he did it then duh he needs to be punshed for it well enough said
Curious George (ha ha) (4/30/2005) He who is without sin cast the fist stone.Isn't that what the bible says? I heard someone say this once.Someone said sometime ago that we are all as filthy rags.Or do we still practice this? Hmmmm, some people can get by with anything,if they are popular enough and well-liked,and has plenty of money.
DevilDriver (4/30/2005) I agree with truthseeker...If a man is truly called by God he can't and will not stray from his calling, let alone being busted for selling drugs...How can a man that is supposed to be saving soul's one day turn around the next day and destroy life's by selling drugs? Situation's like this are far to common with alot of so called preacher's that I know of..
truthseeker (4/29/2005) What you do in the dark will be brought to the light. To try to hide your filthy deeds behind the guise of religion is beyond contempt. You have hindered many more people than you have ever helped.
Curious George (ha ha) (4/29/2005) I still think the same, maybe they are just pickin on a preacher.A preacher can make mistakes too, they are human just like we are, they aren't perfect.
Look at King David in the bible,he was a man after God's own heart, but he slept with Bathsheba and had her husband killed.Maybe this former preacher can get the same judge that ruled in Mr.King's case, maybe he will rule this out, cause this man has sought forgiveness. If not, maybe this preacher ought to file a discrmination complaint against them.Hmmm,if an attorney can get by with something as far as stealing over 300,000 dollars, then a preacher should get by with what he has done as well.I am not saying this preacher shouldn't be punished,he should be,but he should be given a break,if this is his first time getting in trouble. If you give one man who has an high authority such as an attorney, then why not give a person such as a preacher a break as well.
Come on folks, let's give this a man a chance,at least he seemed so sincere in this weeks paper,if I diddn't read the paper,I may have stuck with my first comment, but after reading the paper,he seems more deserving to get a second chance, way more than Mr.King did.Let's just give him 5 years probation,he shouldn't get any jail time.Heck a former preacher getting jail time, but yet a big-wig man like Mr.King getting no time at all? Hmmmm, something sure does smell funny, can't you smell that foul odor in the sky? I sure can.
