Hensleys� trial scheduled April 11 By JNAIE SLAVEN Record Staff Report WHITLEY CITY � The former McCreary County Deputy Sheriff accused of shaking his five-week-old daughter nearly to death will stand trial in April. Steve Hensley, 36, and his wife, 29-year-old Linda Hensley, appeared in McCreary Circuit Court last Tuesday. Both are charged with first-degree criminal abuse after being arrested last January when their severely injured infant was taken to a Knoxville hospital for treatment. At that time, Steve Hensley was volunteering with the local sheriff�s office. The case was investigated by the Kentucky State Police. A month later, a McCreary County grand jury also charged Steve Hensley with first-degree assault and Linda Hensley with Criminal Complicity to Commit Assault First Degree. The couple were ultimately released on bond, though their children remained in protective custody. Since the indictment, Mrs. Hensley has sought supervised visitation with her daughters in addition to having her case severed from her husband�s. Last week, Judge Paul Braden ordered that the Hensleys will stand trial together beginning April 11. With your wit, I was wondering if for the public record you could not find out just how many murders went unsolved or there was hardly any punishment for the convicted. It would be really interesting to know and it might bring attention to that County from a higher source if they had proof in front of them. CountryGirl (2/7/2026) To: someone who cares. He was and still is a conartist. He is the best at what he does. He can be with any level of class of people... Thank you to Lady Bug... He could have had any one to believe him instead of his wife. Because they let him at that sheriff department and when he worked at the jail get away with anything.. He was cheap labor. You do know that the saying in McCreary is that you can get away with murder in McCreary County. Well as it looks that is true. So you tell me what anyone could do. I know that there are several people and I mean several people that are still afraid of him and would not say a word against him due to the fact that he might do something to them... I wouldn't be so scared and worried about my own self just because he was a cop ( A LOUSY ONE AT THAT ). Another thing, your assuming everyone liked this man in order to do him favors like searches on his wife if she was to leave.Also, someone needs to do a back ground check on his family from up north before hiring him in as law enf. That would have told the them more than they would have ever wanted to hear. So, that tells me the wife knew all she needed before hooking up with him. He is good at getting by with it to. I called the cops one evning at my house and he was the one who was sent there. He wasn't worried about what was actually happening and the purpose of him being there, he was more concerned about hitting on my neice and wanting to know her name and if she was married. Believe it, cause it's true. There was about 10 people just on one end that witnessed it. I hope he gets what he deserves and I hope that poor poor baby will never have to experiance anything like that again. As for the mother, she knows her husband better that anyone proably and she should have protected that baby better than what she did. She knows his temper, I learned that the first time I met him and she married, slept,lived with him. I guess denial is the only way some peolpe can cope, but it will sooner or later catch up. someone who cares (1/24/2006) I agree with the person who knows more than you realize... Mr. Hensley had several and I mean several reports about his behavior as a cop as well when he was a deputy jailer. But as usual he would lie and get away with it... If some would realize what that family went through. It would make the hair raise upon your arms. I know first hand...... If you look around it is who you know, how much money you have and who your lawyer is.... The man should have never been able to be a police officer.He was given the authority to do as he pleased he could harrass and belittle anyone that he felt the notion to do so. He was very capabible of hurting that precious child but we will never know the actual truth.I honestly feel the county should be held liable for letting him to be an officer. Weasel (1/17/2006) To It's comming again...you mention that someone in our sheriffs department has been dishonorably discharged. I wonder if that can be verified. The law (KRS 15.382(9)says that no one can be certified as a law enforcement officer if they have been dishonorably discharged. If what you say is true, it needs to be reported by the media. someone cares (1/16/2006) McCreary County is all about who you know and if you have money. If you have made enemies with the people in office and in the other citizens like he did. Tell me how she will be treated fairly? She was a hard worker and she done the best she could in providing for her family. Fear takes a person over and let me tell you from experience. Its not fun. Ask yourself...How many of you are fearful of your spouse and fear is a big thing especially for someone in the law enforcement area. We can say all day long about how sad it is that these two are charged with this crime, but what about the two children who have been jerked from the care of a father and mother that they thought they could trust and thrown into the care of whomever they are living with and all the while wondering what happened. I will put it to you this way I know first hand what the oldest girl is going through and has gone through for the last year and it breaks my heart into a million pieces and if these two are guilty then my only response is DO NOT have children if you cannot provide them with the assurity that they are loved more than anything else and will forever be safe in a parents care and that goes for anyone not just these people. If innocent children cannot trust their parents to take care of them then who can they trust?
