School Board members retain same positions

STEARNS For their first meeting of the calendar year, the McCreary County Board of Education chose to keep operations as they are.
Board members voted to retain Chairman Elmer Smith and Vice-Chair Joyce Kidd in their respective roles as well keep regular meetings set for the fourth Monday of each month. Board attorney Tim Crawfords contract was also renewed for another year.
Buddy Wilson, Crabtree-Wilson Insurance Agency, addressed the board re-garding insurance bids. The school board currently purchases policies for property, liability and workers compensation through the Kentucky School Board Association and has not bid out for insurance in three years. Wilson asked the board to consider re-bidding and to release claims from the last five years to ensure that all bidders can submit fair quotes. Superintendent Ray Ball advised that the information would be made available.
The board also entered into executive session, citing a student hearing, sale of real property and personnel matter. Upon returning to open session, Chairman Smith read the following statement:
This statement clearly holds each of us in our community as a whole accountable for the future of our school population. Therefore under no circumstances do we condone or approve the use of school facilities or equipment for immoral or unethical behavior.
In other business, the school board approved:
field trips for the MCMS Archery Club, 7th Grade Gear-Up students and BETA Club.
Family Resource/Youth Service Center continuation grants for Whitley City Elementary, Pine Knot Primary, Pine Knot Intermediate, McCreary County Middle and McCreary Central.
paving at Pine Knot Primary School.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for February 27 at 7 p.m.

I would like to see all the parents help me make an issue to the school board and the state about the nit policy change AFTER the school year started. I want it changed back to the way it was. At least something similar.

Paving at Pine Knot Primary? Over half a year of school has gone by and we've seen no paving yet? How many people, how much funds could it possibly take to pave one parking lot? What happened to all the money saved by closing the other schools? Any of it left to pave our parking lot?
