By JANIE SLAVEN Record Staff Writer MARSHES SIDING � A McCreary man is in jail following a domestic dispute that ended in a stabbing. David A. Smith, 30, of Whitley City is charged with first-degree assault. He was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after the McCreary County Sheriff�s Department responded to a domestic dispute at Greene Pointe Apartments in Marshes Siding. Upon arrival, investigating officer Deputy Tom Smith found that David Smith had beenarguing with girlfriend Amanda McQueary inside his apartment. McQueary told authorities that he pulled out a knife and started stabbing her. Witnesses at the apartment complex told The Record that McQueary ran out into the courtyard followed by the suspect. Dep. Smith reported that McQueary, who was treated by McCreary County EMS then transported to Scott County Hospital, suffered at least 11 cuts to the hands and neck area. Dep. Smith and Sheriff Penny Perry searched the area between David Smith�s and his mother�s apartments for the alleged weapon while Dep. Luke Morrow guarded the suspect. He was later lodged in the McCreary County Jail under a $25,000 cash bond. David Smith was arraigned on Wednesday in McCreary District Court. He pled not guilty before Judge Dan Ballou, who ordered that the defendant be evaluated at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center in LaGrange. Seems to me he has been arrested before on charges involving a sister-in-law.
